Slow Playing

Filed under: Gamblers Lair, Life Of Games, The Funny Farm — admin @ 10:23 am

Slow playing can be an effective poker online strategy. By disguising a winning hand with checks and tentative bets, you can entrap an opponent into betting with a losing hand. There are risks, however-slow playing can come in very handy, but it can also screw you over pretty badly. Slow playing can give your poker online opponent an opportunity to draw out a winning hand, it can tip off your opponent to your cards, and it can also reduce the size of the pot when you do win the hand.

The first risk that you run when you slow play is that you may end up winning a much smaller pot than you would have otherwise. If you’ve dropped a monster hand, then it’s likely that your opponents haven’t. When your poker opponents don’t have a winning hand, they’re not going to be eager to push chips into the pot, and when you slow play your opponents, they won’t have to. If you show weakness by checking, your opponents are free to check as well instead of raising you, which is what they may want to do to see if the next card helps them out at all. If you’re not careful, you may end up winning the blinds with your nut flush.

Khoom Fay Thai Lanterns Shimmer

Filed under: Entertainment Tips, The Funny Farm — admin @ 7:16 am

Thai Lanterns are traditionally addressed Khoom Fay, with a bamboo frame covered by light tissue paper. The heated air is offered by a burning fuel pod that comes connected to the lanternThey ascend gracefully, and are an impressive vision, particularly when released at regular intervals to form a chain of sparks up into the sky. Night or day they actually make an affect. Night releases seem more suited to the classic white lanterns whilst Coloring lends itself nicely to Thai Lanterns discharged in the day but that is just my own individual opinion.Cautiously unpack the Thai Lantern, without tearing the delicate paper. Ensure the lantern is fully extended, and not wrinkled or falling sidewise. Holding the top of the lantern is the easiest means to do this, softly rising it a couple of feet, then acutely dropping it. Air pressure will blow up the unit.Hold the lantern upright, and have a helper light the wick. After a few seconds the lantern will feel lighter, then rise gradually. Do not effort to throw it up into the air - just lead it and let it go by itself. Now relax and enjoy the showThese lanterns are thought for use by experienced pyrotechnic operators. Wear fire retardant clothing and mitts, and have a bucket of H2O accessible.

Televised Poker and College Kids

Filed under: Gamblers Lair, Life Of Games, The Funny Farm — admin @ 10:08 am

When I was in college, I didn’t watch televised online poker shows. I can’t even remember if there were such things back then. Life now a days is very different for the average co-ed. If you have spent any portion of the last couple of years outside of a cave you will have realized that college kids are the biggest growing demographic of online poker players. They have the disposable income to play more than the average 40 hour a week worker and the free time to spend at a casino online.

Some of the current research suggests that televised poker games are responsible for the huge boom in college kids turning to online poker. This age group is highly susceptible to peer pressure, and how can there be more pressure than watching someone win thousands of dollars on the television. Weekly poker games have moved online instead of in local college hangouts, but the tradition is still active.

Researchers have shown that almost all of the college players who play online televised poker. Unfortunately, they cannot prove whether they watch televised shows because they play online or whether it is the other way around. The details of the arrangement don’t really matter to the average player. If you watch poker on television, however, keep looking for advertisements targeted to the college audience. The trend is sure to grow in the future.

Flying under the Radar

Filed under: Gamblers Lair, Life Of Games, The Funny Farm — admin @ 9:56 am

At the poker table, it is best to keep a low-key image in order to stay off your opponents’ radar screens. By doing so, you reduce the amount of confrontations you face, and the amount of pressure your opponents put on you. If your goal is to make money in poker whether it be in the online or live environment, you are best suited to do so by not being easily recognizable by your opponents. By adopting a more flat and unassuming style of play, you allow other players do battle with each other, while you wait for strong spots to take away pots in an unassuming manner. Whether you are playing online or live poker , being a flashy, loud player may be a style you prefer, but be aware that there are consequences that accompany this type of play. People may overtly say they are going to gun for you, and others make keep it close to their vest and quietly wait for a chance to take your poker chips. The best example of this would be a player like Phil Hellmuth, who makes a spectacle of himself at the tables, and as a result has many people trying to bust him. If you like a lot of action, and can withstand the swings (both of your chip count and in your mind), then this may be a style fitting to you. The best way to play this type of poker is to be aware people are going to try to draw down on you, and that the best way to exploit people gunning for you is to maximize your value when you are sure you have the best hand. This may seem simplistic, but the fact of the matter is, players are more likely to tilt-call you to try and knock you out, and convince themselves you are on a bluff or a draw. Therefore, making large over bets against players likely to pay you off is definitely a positive expectation move. If you choose to play a more tight image, many more doors open up for you. You can get paid off with the best hand by the maniacs, and also convince people you hold a strong hand because they associate your quiet candor with being a rock, and only playing the nuts. If you play online, it has been recommended by top pros such as Barry Greenstein that you make a screen name that does not attract attention, and also not to put an avatar if one is not required. By making it harder for your opponents to remember who you are, it makes it easier on you to play out of their proverbial field of view.

My First Hog Roast

Filed under: Eating Out, Puppies + Pets, The Funny Farm — admin @ 12:18 am

The first meat that I ever wanted to cook on a barbecue was a chicken using the rotisserie and I’ve never really stopped to think about why. I think it’s down to “the boy with a new toy” mentality in that the BBQ spit came in the pack with the grill and a rotisserie cooking process adds dynamism. Looking back not only is it visually appealing but also the spit does the work for you leaving enough time for a beer or two!Maybe I did one too many beers on that first cookout because the results weren’t quite up to standard. I attempted to light my grill with paper and wood which sent ash all over the chicken. I didn’t rest the chicken very well on the spit so one side cooked before the other. I made every mistake in the book.Having said that, getting that first taste of BBQ smoke was still a defining moment and even after my first disastrous attempt with the rotisserie I was (and still am) hooked on outdoor cooking.I finally advanced to cooking large animals on larger barbeques; I found that whole lambs or whole hogs are my favorite. Roasting a hog shouldn’t seem scary; if you don’t want to do it yourself there are a number of companies who can do it for you. After tasting pork cooked on a spit roast I don’t think I can ever return to cooking it in a conventional oven.

Buffet Lines

Filed under: Eating Out, The Funny Farm, The Helping Hand — admin @ 10:36 pm

During the holidays there are many places to go too for food with the family. It is best to go to places that do not have a buffet because there is so much food available at these buffets. If you take a look at a buffet it is endless, meaning more food calories than you will ever need. It is like having eyes bigger than you need.

If you do end up going to a buffet line, make sure that you take a product such as acceletrim for appetite control, this way you can save on the calories and not eat as much as you want, you will eat as much as you need. There is a difference between wants and needs, and when it comes to food it is best practice to go with what your body needs rather than what you want. Although there are so many different food types to choose from on a buffet line, it will end up in you eating too many calories. The temptation is just simply too much to handle. A salad buffet would be alright because the amount of calories would not add up to be that much, just enough, just as long as you don’t go for the cream based dressing, that stuff is high in fat and unhealthy calories.

Learn to Play Aces in Omaha

Filed under: Gamblers Lair, Life Of Games, The Funny Farm — admin @ 3:43 pm

Everyone has been there- you get a pair of aces and think you are invincible. While most poker players do it subconsciously, they tend to play more confidently with holding a pair of rockets. I am not trying in any way to say that a pair of aces is not a great starting hand in Omaha casino games- but just be careful how you play them.

The worst thing you can do is get overconfident. Not only will this reveal your tells to your opponents for them to abuse, it will also hamper your ability to play well overall. Overconfidence is a dangerous path- it can lead to reckless betting, loose playing, and foolish mistakes when playing online poker.

Omaha is a community card based game, so the flop has a lot of power. The same reason why you should keep drawing with a bad starting hand is the same reason you shouldn’t let a pair of Aces go to your head- the flop can change everyone’s cards. It could mean that you neighbor could get a strong hand (even with little showing) that will simply pulverize your pair of Aces. Keep your eyes on the board to make sure that your confidence will not lead you to underestimate your opponent’s hands. Don’t let a single pair of Aces ruin your whole game.

Learning to Be a Dealer

Filed under: Gamblers Lair, Life Of Games, The Funny Farm — admin @ 10:38 am

Most people who love to play poker have considered becoming a poker dealer at one time or another. To many people, it seems like the perfect combination of playing poker all day and not losing your money at the table. Before you quite your day job, however, to spend your days at the table, remember that you need to undergo a lot of training before you can become a professional dealer.

Most professional dealers are required to undergo a 4-6 week intensive training program before they start work. This training course teaches them the basics of dealing, how to deal with their customers, and how to spot cheaters. Depending on the casino, this training can be either paid or unpaid. If it is unpaid, undergoing this long of a training session could pose a significant financial challenge to your dreams of becoming a professional poker dealer.

Before you sign up to become a professional dealer, you also need to know that dealers have very unusual working hours. Their job often requires them to work weekends and holidays, or long hours. Due to the nature of the job, professional poker players also need to work nights on a regular basis. You need to remember the demands of the job before you make any rash decisions about a new career.

Deep Stack Starting Stacks and Structures

Filed under: Gamblers Lair, Life Of Games, The Funny Farm — admin @ 1:43 pm

Some online poker tournaments may have a deceiving allure when they are announced as deep stack or double stack events. The normal reaction would be that you’d get more play for your money in a tournament that starts with 30,000 chips than in one that starts with 10,000. There are a lot of things to factor in when determining this.

Firstly, many deep stack online pokertournaments basically just mean that they begin you with a deep stack. Having 30,000 chips at a 25/50 blind level can gave its advantages. You can decide to play a lot of hands and try and snap people off, or you can literally wait for premium hands. You have a lot of options at the beginning of a deep stack event. These options may cease to run out quickly if the tournament has a poor structure. A lot of online events will boast that they are deep stacked, but not the fact that they have turbo blinds. This means that you get a lot of play in the early stages, and when you near the middle or end of a tournament, you have very few choices available to you. Short stacks cannot wait around and are forced to make moves, and big stacks have the clear advantage of picking their spots.

In many poorly run deep stack pokertournaments, the antes arrive way too soon. I played one a few weeks ago where the antes arrived on the third blind level. After two hours and fifteen minutes of a 3-day event, antes were introduced. You could tell, the organizers of this event just wanted to get things over with. They wanted people to feel they were in a very long and slow tournament, but all of the fine details pointed otherwise.

Also, take a look at the blind schedule. Sometimes critical blind levels are skipped. This one tournament went from 600/1200, to 800/1600, to 1,000/2,000 and then jumped to 2000/4000. The whole time the big blind was being increased by 400, and all of a sudden it is being increased by 2,000, a 5x jump. While they can’t keep the increases the same for the whole tournament, this one was drastic. How about a 1500/3000 level?

So, before you cough up the extra coin to play in a deep stack tournament, make sure that the structure looks like it will also run deep and give you lots of play. Who needs lots of play on day one when you can have it around the bubble?
