Have You Ever Considered Checking Your Internet Speed?

Filed under: Software Tips, Telecommunication Portal, Tool Stuff — admin @ 7:39 am

Any user of a broadband company will claim that their supply speed is probably the greatest piece of the supply. However numerous broadband providers do not supply users with tools to trial their speed. The saving grace is there are many another web sites out there that will grant you to verify your internet speed. When examining your internet speed it’s all-important to get a application that is oriented to your state, there is no point executing a trial utilizing a tester based in New Zealand when you are trying to do a broadband speed test in India. A trial will hand you your upload speed as well as your download speed. Upload means speed betwixt your PC and the Net, so if you send off a lot of files then upload is crucial to you. Download speed is how quick you can take files from the internet to your PC. Download speed is commonly a lot swifter than upload and this is normal. Most customers are a great deal more concerned in their download speed instead of their upload speed as customers normally expend a great deal more time on getting files. When you have checked the speed of your internet supply what are the options if you are less than satisfied? The most obvious option is to call up your sipply company and let them know that you think your speed is unacceptable. You should also do things at your property to make sure that your supply is running optimally. Always make sure that all integral telephone cabling is in tiptop shape and do not use poor quality wires. Check your PC virus software is up to date. When performing a internet speed trial constantly ensure that you aren’t executing any other activities that will be causing the connection to be in use such as playing games or downloading movies.

New Website to Make Government Reports and Surveys Accessible to Public

Filed under: Caveat Emptor, Life Information, Telecommunication Portal — admin @ 1:06 pm

With a view to making government data and statistics easily accessible the local public, the UK government is going to launch a new website titled data.gov.uk. This website will give detailed reports of different projects undertaken or funded by the government in different times. Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, is playing a leading role in the development of this website,

The website’s launch will mark the culmination of a project that began in June 2009 to look into ways by which public sector statistics and data can be made accessible for the common masses. In fact, a pilot version of the website was introduced last September, and it proved to be a huge success.

Different kinds of data related to government surveys will be available from this website. For example, people will be provided information on the general flow of traffic in different cities across Britain or on the incidence of crime in metropolitan cities in the last decade.

Not only that, the website will also present accurate statistical data on educational institutions and even allow members of the public to address their complaints and grievances regarding bad roads and loss of greenery in their neighbourhoods.

In a recent interview to BBC News, Sir Tim said that every year, the government spends astronomical amounts on research to collect different kinds of data pertaining to education, health, etc. and after the data is collected and used by the government agencies, they become redundant and are forgotten by government officials. The new website will be an attempt to revive and salvage such data from oblivion.

If you need more information on broadband, or the various ISPs, look at mobile.broadbandgenie.co.uk. It is worth a look at the website for and their comparative table of mobile internet providers, which includes an analysis of their products and services and all the information you need to get up and running on broadband internet.

Virgin Media Planning to Increase Mobile Broadband Speeds

In a recent announcement, Virgin Media has declared the launch of a speedier broadband (7.2Mb) for its customers. Until now, the advertised speed of Virgin Media has been 3.6Mb. Orange, 3 and O2 also offer the same speed, with Vodafone being an exception. Vodafone provides speeds of 7.2Mb, and now Virgin Media is planning to catch up with Vodafone with its new offering.

A user can enjoy this faster connection from Virgin with a new dongle that can support 7.2Mb speeds. One can get the dongle on either an 18-month contract or a 1-month rolling contract. The monthly data usage will vary from 1GB to 3GB.

According to Virgin, the new dongle will enable users to watch video clips on YouTube or listen to iPlayer. However, if a user wants to watch a TV soap opera like Eastenders, then the connection may pose some problems, though buffering will be considerably less when compared to other connections.

However, one has to remember that 7.2Mb will only be the advertised speed. Speed will greatly depend on user traffic, so not every user may be able to enjoy a fast connection.

Still, Virgin is quite optimistic about its new offering. Executive director of mobile at Virgin Media Graeme Oxby said in this regard that Virgin is proud to provide 7.2Mb speeds to its customers. He stressed on the advantages of mobile broadband over fixed-line and wireless connections, and expressed his hope that mobile broadband at 7.2Mb will prove to be immensely beneficial for customers.

At present the 7.2Mb dongle will be available on a monthly rolling contract or alternatively for 18 months, with data limits set at 1GB or 3GB per month. To compare the current range of mobile broadband prices, see Mobile Broadband Genie’s comparison table for the latest broadband offers, such as pay as you go dongle and other top broadband packages.

YourSpace CVA - Good News for Company, Employees and Partners

YourSpace, the serviced office space provider with primary focus on areas like Liverpool, Manchester, London, Glasgow, and Newcastle, has received a new lease of life with the approval of its Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA). Creditors and company members alike have decided to back the CVA and give the company a chance to regain its lustre in the industry. This approval is a direct result of positive predictions for the real estate markets in the UK. Analysts believe that a real estate boom is round the corner. This belief has led to a growth in the markets and tenancy rates are steadily going up. Many prime areas are feared to go out of quality office spaces soon unless new developments get off the ground. Earlier in the year, with recession still gripping the economy, YourSpace was struggling to keep tenancy rates high in order to maintain steady turnover and pay operational costs. In this situation, the company came up with the CVA as a scheme to avoid administration. Under the terms of this agreement, YourSpace will pay 20p for every pound owed to unsecured creditors. This figure will be revised to 40p if the company can meet some pre-specified targets. Some lien on assets was also outlined in the CVA. The company already named Bill Dawson and Daniel Butters as joint supervisors of this agreement last year. They are of the opinion that with the CVA now approved and ready to be implemented, employees and trading partners can heave a sigh of relief. They also believe that this procedure has demonstrated the effectiveness of the CVA as a tool to prevent administration. If you are looking for office space, many companies are now trying to maximise space by providing desk space rental and shared office space; click Desk Space Genie to carry out a quick and easy search for 100s of desks to rent in London and all major UK cities.

Australian Police Intends to Nip Cybercrimes in the Bud

Filed under: Caveat Emptor, Telecommunication Portal, The Helping Hand — admin @ 4:11 am

Wardrivers and piggybackers on unsecured wireless networks in Queensland, Australia now have reason to fear. The Police have decided to end their era of free riding other people’s networks by warning the owners of the networks in advance.

The Police will be looking for people with open, unsafe networks, and would then tell them about the dangers of it, including piggybacking. They would also tell them about the important measures that they should take to protect themselves. For this purpose, they will dig up the information and data in the same manner as wardrivers do. They hope that by doing so, they will be able to solve the problem before it even manifests itself for a large proportion of Wi-Fi users.

Brian Hay, Detective Superintendent of the Queensland Police, who has recently been given a McAfee International Cybercrime Fighter Award, is very enthusiastic about the program. He stated that the Police would pick small localities, do searches there and use the media to highlight the problems and their consequences. They will inform people about the corrective actions that they need to take as well. If you’re unsure of mobile broadband, or simply want to learn more, refer to a dedicated mobile broadband website for information and advice, and offers such as mobile broadband pay as you go.

He said that it is very similar to an earlier drive when the Police decided to look for unlocked cars in public areas such as railways stations and informed the owners regarding the possible consequences of leaving the car doors unlocked by leaving a message on the car. The Police hope that the new campaign will see similar success.

Don’t Waste Your Money on the Phone

Filed under: Telecommunication Portal — admin @ 11:52 am

No one likes phone bills,in fact no one likes bills. You always take the various things that you regularly use such as your phone, for granted, until the irritating day the bill lands on your doorstep. There is always something else you would rather spend your money on, for me, I’m a sucker for the latest gadgets; and when you are faced with so many new products and are bombarded with adverts from every direction once it reaches Christmas, it can be particularly difficult. I made a fantastic discovery last week which not only gave me the perfect excuse to buy a new gadget, but will also save me money, letting me make cheap calls to Russia so eventually it will actually pay for itself.

I’m talking about voice over IP which is a useful way of making really cheap phone calls over the internet. I really don’t know how I have overlooked this fantastic little gadget before. All you need to do is buy a VoIP phone, get assigned a number and then use your phone as you would normally and enjoy all the money you have saved. I know exactly what I am going to spend it on as well, an awesome gadget I’ve seen which lets you wirelessly stream music to your hifi! You can just never have enough gadgets.
