Calling with no Pair Heads up
Heads up poker is such a different beast from the way it goes with a full table, or even short handed. Often it resembles chess more than any other hybrid of online poker , where psychology and strategizing over the long haul means as much if not more than any one given hand. The small pots add up and can end up being worth more even than the large ones. Every decision can mean life or death. The main difference here when it comes to value of online poker cards is that everything is much more powerful than it normally would be. A pair is often the best hand when flopped or in the hole, because of how hard it is to make a pair with any two random cards. One step back from this is the fact that ace high can often be the best hand, in that your opponent has failed to make any sort of hand. You often see great heads up players making calls in big pots with ace high and winning. Often this happens when the board looked favorable for a draw that did not come; such as two of a suit on the flop that didn’t materialize, coupled with an opponent who likes to bet and draw at such a hand. A bare ace means that your opponent at least has to have a pair to beat you, and sometimes this is enough to win a pot. Feel is again the issue, but never assume that you’ve lost simply because all you’ve got ace high. In heads up, it can be a monster.
