Filed under: Miscellaneous, Online Management — admin @ 12:44 pm

Nowadays many managers feel that, since every employee has decent health & safety training, they are adequately prepared for any situation. Realistically however, employees must have more than the basics in health & safety regulatory affairs. Equipping staff, choosing good supervision and promoting frequent drills are essential to the safety of employees. Anyone in a supervisory capacity has a greater purpose to carry out than simply managing the work environment. Your choice of supervisor is required to see their health & safety training as crucial and have the ability to get other staff excited about it.

As well as observing all of the rules and laws, the person supervising must furthermore check that employees perform every task to the best of their abilty. This is a challenging job. An effective supervisor needs to have comprehensive understanding of both the industry best practice and manufacturing procedures in addition to an advanced comprehension of the safety laws, the identification of problem areas, and emergency assistance techniques.

It simply isn’t sufficient to send your staff on a health & safety course. Your staff have to practise risk assessment and the identification of problem areas. Employees need to know the best way of dealing with safety risks and how to act when the worst happens. Not until these processes have developed into second nature are staff properly trained. Education is in fact not enough if you don’t keep safety gear. If they are lacking the items they require, or even find that they’re broken when they really need them, the safety training your employees have completed will have been wasted.

Servicing your equipment on a regular basis is a good idea. When you have a problem with your safety equipment, have it mended or call out a service engineer as soon as you can.

Your employees must have proper health and safety education, but in addition they must have decent supplies, the opportunity to practise, and a supervisor who can motivate your staff. When you put this advice into practice you should find the various safety regulations be a natural part of working life not something challenging for staff to remember.
