11 Tips to Energize Your Website Copy

Filed under: A Better Web — admin @ 7:02 pm

Imagine; you spend thousands of dollars designing your website
and no one comes. Why? It could be that you forgot about the
content or you didn’t invest enough in the message. Good website
content delivers the right message in the right way.

Tip #1 -The most important rule to remember is that writing for
the web is not like writing for print. Tip #2 - Brochures
contain a tremendous amount of information in a small amount of
space. You can’t successfully post the wording from a brochure
on your website - that is too much text. Tip #3 - As a rule, cut
print copy 50 percent before posting it on your website. If all
the information is necessary, reformat it. Keep the content
short and simple. People tend to scan websites, seldom reading
through long blocks of text.

Tip #4 - Headings are an effective tool in letting people see
your message as they scan through your website. To break up
copy, consider using subheadings. Make it easy for your visitor
to jump around your website and get key information.
Additionally, as search engines often use headings to find your
page, use keywords.

Tip #5 - Get used to counting words. Headings should be under
eight words. Sentences should range from 15 to 20 words and
paragraphs from 40 to 70 words.

Tip #6 - Bullets are an excellent way to quickly present
information to someone scanning your website. Consider using
bulleted information as links to more detailed descriptions,
rather than trying to put all the information on one page.

For instance, if you are writing Web content for a restaurant
and want to offer potential customers suggestions on dining
occasions, you might try:

The Lost in The 60’s Restaurant is a fun place to celebrate:
*Birthdays *Anniversaries *Group Events *Corporate Events and
Parties *Company Parties

Now all the information is only a click away. And it’s easy to
search, thereby saving patrons time and you a cluttered Web
space.

Tip #7 - Another rule of thumb is to avoid industry jargon. Be
considerate of your website visitor and don’t assume they know
what you know. Using unfamiliar words could confuse visitors and
influence them to leave your site. Also, make sure your phrasing
is easy-to-understand. Consider asking someone outside your
industry to review your writing.

Tip #8 - Remember, people use the Internet to find information.
You need to be direct and to the point to attract attention
immediately. Always begin paragraphs with the most important
information and then provide other relevant details.

Tip #9 - Use a conversational style. Write as though you were
speaking with someone, not at them.

In a face-to-face encounter, a salesperson tries to immediately
establish a rapport with a customer. It is much easier to make a
sale if someone feels comfortable and trusts you. With the
Internet, you have to establish that same rapport with words.

Tip #10 - The best way to converse with your reader is to write
from their point of view, not yours. Don’t simply write, “The
XY2 Widget is the best product on the market.” Rather, explain
the benefits of the XY2 Widget; ” By purchasing the XY2 Widget
you will save time and money.” Then, illustrate how the widget
saves time and money.

Tip #11 - Finally, show some enthusiasm in your writing! People
want to be entertained. Corporate-speak is not going to do it.
Have some personality and create a voice for your company that
people recognize. It truly is OK to entertain and inform on the
Web.

Taking a Fresh Look: Understanding My Mission and Purpose in Life

Filed under: New Age Tips + More — admin @ 6:24 pm

“You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing”
Ps.145:16

Have you ever wondered what the passions and talents are that God has given you, and what you should do with them? Have you ever wondered if God has a dream for your life?

I was talking with some friends about these issues and one of them said: “What if I look inside and look at my life and don’t find the answers to these questions, or don’t find anything?” While I understand the uncertainty of her reply and her timidity, thinking that way fails to acknowledge that God has given each of us special passions to accomplish what He wants done in the world. And He has given us abilities to carry those passions out! They are part of our DNA of God-designed gifts. When we say that we might not find “anything”, we are saying we aren’t human. We might as well be a robot going through life.

Our Mission in Life
It is been said that our mission in life is to exercise the talents and motivations we most delight to use, in the place or setting God has caused to appeal to us the most, for the purposes which God most needs, again, to have accomplished in the world. Could you describe what this would be for you? That would mean describing your strongest passions, where you want to put them to use, and the purposes and people they would serve. Apart from God’s leading and some personal reflection, this could be a tall order!

Understanding Our Purpose
Purpose can be found when we discover the specific purpose for which we were created and to which we are called. We all seem to want to fulfill a purpose bigger than ourselves.

A reminder: “We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Eph.2:10) What were you created to do? Ask yourself if your activities and “work” are fulfilling some of God’s purposes for your life? You might be doing “meaningful” things, but they might not be what God had in mind for you.

Another friend of mine (a very talented woman) recalled to me that her church had asked her if she would accept a particular job. I have no doubt she would have carried out that responsibility with talent and commitment. However, I sensed she was holding back. I asked Cindy, “Are your passions really in this job? Does it motivate you?” Her answer was no. She suddenly realized this was not her calling.
She turned the job down. Later, she found other ways to use her abilities that did motivate her and enable her to serve in her church. I credit Cindy with recognizing that God gave her heart passions for a reason, and if she were faithful to those passions, a way would open up for them to be used.

Thinking About Our Heart Desires
There is a lesson here for all of us. We need to not only recognize our strongest passions, but reflect and pray about them. Why? They are hallowed ground. They hold the secret to the purposes for our life! We can find our passions or heart desires by looking over our life and listing our most satisfying achievements or accomplishments. Such achievements can come from school, church, work, home, hobbies, volunteer work, and can go back to childhood.

For example, you may find you were you always leading, serving, helping, communicating, organizing, solving problems, entertaining, or inspiring others. Anything you did which was based on something important to you was tied into your motivational pattern. Discover what those motivations were and how they were used throughout your life. Write them down. They represent “where your heart is” and what God has planted in you! This information can be helpful to you in making life decisions and choices.

Identifying the Setting/Activity That Appeals the Most
After listing your heart’s desires, consider using them in different settings and perhaps in new activities. Make a list of those settings and opportunities. You will find one or two will stand out more than the others. I made a list of the ways I could use my passions, and was intrigued to find out that even though those passions were part of each possible activity I listed, some activities still “grabbed me” more than others. That was a revelation!

Beware of letting logic get in the way! God may be calling you to stretch yourself and to journey into un-chartered waters. List the different settings that come to mind. Be especially aware of the setting that really motivates you and gives you a sense of knowing and peace that you have found your dream. When you “leave” that activity, you lose your interest. When you “return” to that dream it won’t let go. You could describe the setting in detail: where it is, what you would be doing, whom you would be serving, and how they could benefit. Pray about it, and if it seems right, you have undoubtedly found God’s dream for you. His will is also made know in other ways. (See November, 2003, What Should I Do With My Life? http://www.followyourheart.info/articles/art200311pr.html)

Realizing God’s Dreams Reside in What He Has Already Given Us
When we start to discern the unique design of talents and motivations within us, we start to discern His will for our lives. We have a big dream that has been woven into our being since birth. Our mission is “written in our members.” It is there to draw us toward the life we were born to love, toward what we were made to do, and toward a place of His choosing. We won’t be ourselves until we are there!

God has a mission, a purpose, and a dream for your life. May you find what He would have you do— the place where you could serve and fulfill that dream! You may be used in different ways over your lifetime, in keeping with your passions and talents, and in keeping with where you are in your life.

Happy dream journey,

Interview for “To Love Mercy” author Frank S. Joseph

Filed under: Hardbacks, etc. — admin @ 3:27 pm

We are very pleased to talk with Frank S. Joseph, long-time
writer who has recently penned his first novel, “To Love
Mercy.” Welcome to Reader Views Frank.

Juanita: Thanks for talking with us today Frank. Please tell
us the story within the pages of “To Love Mercy.”

Frank: “To Love Mercy” is a fable about blacks and whites,
Christians and Jews, conflict and forgiveness. It tells the story
of two young boys - one black, one white - who meet under
the worst of circumstances, in a darkened parking lot following a Chicago White Sox game on June
15, 1948. The black child, whose nickname is Sass, is injured accidentally and the white family takes
him - most unwillingly - to a nearby emergency room. But the white child, whose name is Steve, can’
t get the incident out of his mind. The next day, Steve finds his way to Sass’s hospital bedside for a
tense encounter. That would be the end of it, except Steve’s grandfather Nate accuses the black child,
Sass, of stealing a precious silver talisman from him. Nate threatens to throw Sass in jail. So Steve
finds Sass and the two of them go off on a search for the silver talisman, which takes them across a
hostile city over a long day and night. At the end, these two boys have survived disasters and come to
an understanding of their world that is deeper than that of their own mothers and fathers.

Juanita: Tell us the significance of the contrast between the innocent young friends and the racial
inspired, fearful parents?

Frank: The parents are victims of the pressures of society, racial and religious. But the boys are
seeing these things for the first time, and we readers see these things as they see them, through their
eyes.

Juanita: What was your experience and history with Chicago?

Frank: The story in “To Love Mercy” is a story of what my childhood might have been. Like Steve,
I grew up in the ’40s and ’50s in Hyde Park, a comfortable neighborhood on the South Side of
Chicago that was then heavily Jewish. But my grandfather Nathan Joseph owned and operated a
movie theater in the heart of Bronzeville, the ghetto where just about every black Chicagoan lived
during the ’40s. Where I lived, in Hyde Park, was just 30 blocks from the States Theatre, but a world
away. What if little Frankie Joseph had met a kid like Sass? How would my life have changed?

Juanita: Have you based any of the characters on anyone you know? Is there any of you woven
into any of the characters?

Frank: Absolutely. Almost all the major characters are based on real people in my growing-up.
Steve, of course, is based on me. The grandfather, Nate, who owns the movie theater, is based on my
own grandfather, Nathan Joseph, although the character of Nate is meaner than my own grandpa
was. But Sass is pure fiction. One day this kid appeared in my head and started talking. I just wrote
down what I heard.

Juanita: That is very interesting. The dialogue of Steve and Sass is very accurate in its depiction of
how innocent children would talk. Tell us a little more about these characters.

Frank: Steve is nave - he is constantly putting himself in harm’s way because of his innocent and
trusting nature - but he’s worldly too. Coming from a comfortable background, he’s been places and
done things. Sass, on the other hand, hasn’t even been outside his own neighborhood … has never
been the Loop 30 blocks north, doesn’t even realize there’s a lake - big one - 10 blocks east. But Sass
sees everything with perfect clarity. It’s easy to B.S. Steve, but no one can ever B.S. Sass.

Juanita: You did extensive research for this book. Tell us about this process, and the inclusion of
the very powerful Afterword with historical pictures and quotes.

Frank: The first three chapters or so just poured out of me. Then I hit a wall. I needed to start
writing the Bronzeville characters and I realized I just didn’t know them well enough. So I put on my
reporter hat. I started calling black-oriented organizations and offices - the public library branch in
Bronzeville, the offices of the politicians who represent the area, etc. - asking for leads to people who
grew up in Bronzeville in the ’40s and ’50s. With much luck I found a half-dozen such people -
ordinary folks, with extraordinary stories to tell - and interviewed them on tape. I also spent hours at
the Chicago Historical Society, especially in the 1995 records of the Douglas-Grand Boulevard
Neighborhood Oral History Project. I listened to hours of tapes and read dozens of transcripts. From
these I extracted the stories that appear in the Afterword - a history of Bronzeville in the voices of the
people who lived there. And we illustrated the Afterword with black-and-white photos, mostly taken
by a white photographer named Wayne Miller. Miller took these photos over a two-year period, then
they just went into a drawer - they weren’t seen or shown for some 40 years. When Miller was in his
80s, the photos were published by the University of California Press as “Chicago South Side, 1946-
1948.” We selected seven of these marvelous photos to illustrate the Afterword.

Juanita: Frank, the Bronzeville area in 40’s Chicago was then rich in black culture. Why were you
drawn to this time and place?

Frank: Because of the time I spent there. When I was a little kid, my dad would take me down to my
grandpa’s theater, where I could go up into the projection booth and watch the movie. I would watch
as the operator, George Machree, lit the carbon arc that movie projectors used to use, an exciting and
terrifying process Steve describes in the novel. And out on the street, I would see this incredible
liveliness that made Bronzeville truly “Chicago’s Harlem.” But I have to add, Bronzeville was a scary
place for a little white kid. My mom and dad were truly liberal people for their time, but when my dad
would take us down there in the car, he’d say, ‘Lock the doors.’ This disconnect between what my
parents said and how they behaved may actually have been the seed from which this novel grew.

Juanita: How do the families come to terms with their fear?

Frank: The families in the novel never do. They go at one another with insults and epithets. It’s the
kids who finally reach an understanding of the world they live in.

Juanita: Frank, what is your statement to readers through the story of “To Love Mercy?”

Frank: As people read this novel, I’d like them to be thinking how, in some ways, the world has
come an incredibly long way since June 1948 … and in some ways, it hasn’t changed at all.

Juanita: For people who haven’t traveled to Chicago, what is Bronzeville like today and how has it
changed?

Frank: It’s a shadow of its former self. Starting in the early ’50s, urban renewal began mowing the
neighborhood down. The construction of the Robert Taylor Homes - giant skyscraper projects that
became the crime-ridden shame of public housing and eventually were torn down - that construction
destroyed most of the businesses along State Street, including my grandpa’s theater. The theater was
boarded up some time in the ’50s and the building was torn down around 1961 or 1962, leaving
almost nothing in a block that had once been one of the busiest in the city of Chicago. Now, some 50
years later, a real estate boom is going on in Bronzeville, which after all is located only 3 miles
south of the Loop. But only about 20% of the original housing stock exists; the rest was urban-
renewed to the ground decades earlier. There are still blocks and blocks of vacant lots.

Juanita: You have had a significant writing career. Tell your readers about your writing history.

Frank: When I was 21 and a creative writing major in college, I wanted to be a novelist. Instead, I
became a journalist. I had a wonderful career, first with the City News Bureau of Chicago, then the
Chicago bureau of The Associated Press - where I covered the Democratic National Convention
disorders, the Detroit riot, Dr. King’s march into Cicero Illinois and many other eruptions of the mid
and late ’60s. I moved to the Washington DC area, where I still live, and became an editor at The
Washington Post during the Watergate years. Then I went into the newsletter business, first as a
journalist, now as a publisher. But I never stopped thinking about the novel I wasn’t writing. And at
last, I’ve written it.

Juanita: Congratulations for not forgetting about your dream. Was there one particular thing that
inspired this novel?

Frank: “Huckleberry Finn” was the book I had in mind when I wrote “To Love Mercy.” Sass, in his
clear-eyed appraisal of the world and his moral center, is like Huck. And like Huck and Jim, Steve and
Sass are a white and a black person thrown together on a quest. I think the Great American Novel
already has been written, and it is “Huckleberry Finn.” I would not dare compare my talents to Mark
Twain’s, but his book inspired me.

Juanita: Frank, you covered many of the hot issues during the 60’s. Some would say there are
many similarities to the 60’s and the times we find ourselves in today. I would imagine you have a
unique and informed perspective on how things have changed yet stayed the same in this country.
Would you share your thoughts?

Frank: Race was the big issue facing America then, and so it remains. I say that knowing many will
disagree with me, but here’s why I believe it: The race issue never goes away. It just sits there like the
800-pound gorilla in the living room, because we aren’t willing to have an honest discussion about it.
In some small way, I’m trying to start such a discussion.

Juanita: How long was this book in the making, and what was your inspiration for writing “To Love
Mercy?”

Frank: It took about three years from start to finish of the first draft. Of course, after it was
accepted for publication, the publisher wanted significant changes. My inspiration was my feeling that
blacks and whites see the same events differently … that children have their own way of seeing the
world, which is different from the way we adults see the world … and that disconnect I mentioned
between what people say about race and religion, and how they actually behave.

Juanita: Frank, who do you hope reads your book?

Frank: Obviously, Chicagoans will get an extra kick out of this novel, with its many recreations of
beloved places long gone - Riverview Amusement Park, for example, and the old Maxwell Street flea
market, not to mention Comiskey Park, home of the White Sox, and Bronzeville itself. But beyond
Chicago, I think any adult who ponders the way things are in the America we live in - as well as any
thinking teen-ager - will enjoy reading “To Love Mercy.”

Juanita: Do you have plans for another novel in the future?

Frank: I have one half-written already. It’s set in 1965 and it draws on my experiences at The
Associated Press, covering the ghetto riots. At first I thought this novel was my effort to understand
what was going on during those riots - how people who had next to nothing to begin with, could burn
down what little they did have. But as I reread this draft, I’m taken with its humor and romance. So I’
m trying to bring out those qualities along with the serious stuff.

Juanita: How can your readers contact you or find out more about “To Love Mercy?”

Frank: Just go to http://tolovemercy.com

Juanita: Do you have any last thoughts for your readers?

Frank: This has been a pretty serious interview, Juanita, so I just want to let readers know that, hey,
this is a pretty funny novel. Check out Steve and Sass’s theological discussion about hot dogs, for
example. And also, I think the novel is a pretty easy read. It was important to me to write a book that
would be hard to put down - a page-turner. Readers will have to decide for themselves whether I
succeeded. I hope they’ll try.

What You Should Know About Shopping Online

Filed under: Your Commerce — admin @ 7:54 am

If 299,999 planes land safely that’s not news. It takes just one to crash and that becomes news around the world and flying is seen as unsafe. Over 100 countries are at peace but the few that are fighting wars make the news. Understandably, a newscaster is not likely to think it’s a lead story to say, “Well, everything went well today. People went to work, returned home, showered, ate and slept. They are expected to get up next morning and do the same thing.” Media has become entertainment. We need to give the people information to excite them or at least to pull at their heartstrings.

The same happens with the Internet. As I watched the news last night, I saw a story about some attempt to defraud clients of a bank online. So some quack decided to “try a thing.” He/she of course got international media attention. The $8 billion that was spent safely on the Internet over the Christmas holidays, however, didn’t get the same kind of attention. So there is a news bias and we need to be aware of it.

It’s important to be alert but there’s no need to panic. The Internet is probably one of the safest places to do business because there is usually very little, if any, human intervention. A credit card is charged, a secure server sends the money to a bank account and the seller in most cases never even sees the number. You can tempt a man but you can’t tempt a computer. It would just do what it is programmed to do. This, of course, means that computers can be programmed to do fraud. This is why it’s important to be on the look out and make sure you’re not the one out of 300,000.

Here are the basics to keep in mind when shopping online:

  • Look for the “https:” which is also known as the Security Certificate (SSL).

  • Search for reviews on the company. Do your homework.
  • If there’s a phone number on the website, call to check if there are real people at the other end.
  • Don’t buy from any merchant who tries to hide his/her identity.
  • Keep a print record of your transaction.
  • Report any fraudulent activity to the relevant authorities of the country from which you bought right away.
  • Beware of businesses from countries with weak fraud laws. Again, research will pay off.

The International Internet Authority has a list of countries whose businesses will not get ‘High Assurance SSL Certificates.’ Personally I find the list looks more political than anything else. So I wouldn’t use it as a guide to tell me where to buy from or not. What I would use the list for is to check the honesty of the merchants. If the website says it has a ‘High Assurance SSL’ then I would know for sure that it is being less than honest.

However, in today’s world with ’skyboxes’ and Internet telephony, it is easy to fake an address and pretend to be from the U.S.A. for example. In fact the few people I know who have been “burnt” online were defrauded by apparent US-based merchants. Just so you’re aware, I’ll actually tell you about the one I remember: Brooke Distributors out of Miami. Again, just for your knowledge, here’s the list of countries from the IIA: Afghanistan, Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Rwanda, Sudan, and Syria.

Hey, if in doubt about a company from whatever country, just don’t buy.

Some people have also opted to get a special low-limit credit card solely for Internet transactions. That’s smart too. What I know will be a big hit here is when we get an authorise-per-transaction system. So there’s another Internet Opportunity for you. Talk to your bank and suggest the creation of a credit card that can only be used on an authorise-per-transaction basis. The cardholder would be able to log into his/her account on the Internet and specify, for example, “I am going to buy from X website and I authorise X amount.” So if anything goes wrong, you don’t lose much, but remember the news bias. Out of the 1 million transactions that go well, you’ll only hear about the one that didn’t.

In this regard, as website owners, it is important that you see things from the other side of the fence as well. What has made you buy online in the past is very much the same that will make others buy from you. In another issue of Internet Opportunities, we’ll go further into details about online shopping for the benefit of merchants.

Flooring Solutions are Important for Your House

Filed under: Best Home Improvement, Caveat Emptor, The Helping Hand — admin @ 6:52 am

Whenever you have decided to redecorate or renovate your home, then you have to be aware that the flooring solutions will be an important part of your redecoration process. Even though you may paint your walls, change your furniture or do some other stuff, you won’t be able to thoroughly change the look of your house unless you adopt a different flooring solution to your house. A properly done flooring solution will allow for a nice touch to your house that can give it an authentic and graceful look.

However you will also have to keep in mind that flooring solutions will need to be also practical and functional. For example for grand entrances and for Victorian look, you may prefer to have hardwood flooring to make it look good and aristocratic while in the hallways you may prefer to use porcelain tiling as flooring. Tile flooring is also important to use at your kitchen and your bathrooms for maximum convenience. If you have a porch, you can use bamboo flooring and thus the alternatives that you can pick are endless. If your budget is limited and if you are looking for a cheaper solution then Vinyl flooring can be the best way for you.

Toll Free Virtual PBX Systems Level the Playing Field for Small Businesses

Filed under: Hardware Info — admin @ 4:32 pm

Technology, some people fear it, some resist it, and others embrace it. As a small business owner, it could be the best thing that ever happened to your company. With the technology available today, small businesses are increasingly leveling the playing field between themselves and big companies. With toll free virtual PBX (Private Branch Exchange) telephone systems, small businesses are combining today’s technology with traditional customer service to take their business to the next level.

It used to be that only Fortune 500 companies with thousands of employees and 10- story office buildings could afford and maintain a traditional PBX telephone system. Now, with toll free virtual PBX services, anyone with a telephone can reap the benefits of this powerful communications tool. A virtual PBX has all the advantages of a traditional PBX and more without the hassle, hardware, and expense.

A virtual PBX allows small businesses to:

    • Project a professional, more established company image
    • Have one unified number for office phone, cell phone, fax, and pager
    • Make information available to their customers 24/7
    • Automate order taking and pre-qualifying processes
    • Have web-based, real time access to their system

Small and home-based businesses are using all of these features of their toll free virtual PBX systems to sound and operate like a Fortune 500 company everyday.

Project a Professional, More Established Company Image
Right or wrong, consumers assume a company with a toll free number is a more established and secure company. When a toll free number is attached to a virtual PBX with an automated attendant, that powerful image is perpetuated. An automated attendant will answer all incoming calls with the same professional and courteous message every time, day or night. Professional greetings can be recorded by the business owner themselves, or even by a voice talent, and customized for the needs of the business. It doesn’t matter if the business is operated out of a home office or the Oval Office. The caller hears a professional greeting each and every time they call.

    Unified Voice and Messaging System
With a toll free virtual PBX system, small businesses only need one telephone number. This number can be an office phone, cell phone, fax, and pager all in one. Gone are the days of having to put 3 or 4 different numbers on business cards. Now the virtual PBX toll free number replaces them all. When a call comes in to the toll free number, it can be routed to any local number. It can even be programmed to route to different numbers at different times of the day or even different days of the week. A call never has to be missed again. That kind of flexibility is unheard of with a traditional toll free number or a hardwired PBX. If the call is not answered, or is sent to voicemail, the virtual PBX system can even send out a page to let the user know that there is a message waiting for them. The toll free number also acts as the fax number. When a fax is sent, the system recognizes it as a fax and can store it in the fax mailbox for later retrieval, forward the faxed document to a local fax machine, or even send the fax to an email address as an attachment. The unified messaging feature unchains small business owners from the home or small office and allows them the flexibility to get out and build their business while still being available to their customers.

    Powerful Automation
No matter how efficient a small or home-based business is, they simply cannot be available to their customers all the time - unless they have a toll free virtual PBX system. If a caller has questions they want the answers now. If they don’t get those answers when they call, chances are they’ll look some place else. Making sure information is available, even when a live person isn’t, can be the difference between someone becoming a customer or moving on to the competition. A toll free virtual PBX allows the storage of an unlimited amount of information for callers to retrieve 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Menus broken down into what kinds of information a caller might need, make it easy for them to navigate the system and get what they are looking for. Faxes can even be attached so the caller can request an automated fax back. For a business that needs to pre-qualify their callers, or would just like to get some information about them, can take advantage of question and answer voice mailboxes. A set of pre-recorded questions can be asked of the caller and the voice responses then saved in the system and emailed as a sound file. These automated processes not only save time, but they also make sure callers can get the information they need when no one is available.

    Web Based System Access
A toll free virtual PBX is just that, virtual. What that means for a small business owner is that one, there is no hardware to maintain or software to buy, and two, that they can access their system from anywhere they can get online. Online system access is one of the most popular features of a virtual PBX system. Web-based system access allows users to check their voice and fax messages over the internet or have the messages delivered directly to an email address. Of course, messages can still be checked from any touch-tone phone, anywhere.

A small business owner has administrative access to check the call logs of all incoming calls to their toll free number and use the call capture feature to not only capture the phone number of the person calling, but also their name and address. It also allows a user to run reports based on different criteria chosen. For example, reports could be run to show when the busiest time of the week is for customer service or if the call volume increased after a specific ad campaign was released. The applications are endless.

With all these powerful features, and most times more, it’s amazing that toll free virtual PBX systems can be found at a reasonable price. Most systems offered are between $9.95 and $29.95 depending on the capabilities and size of the system. Many will offer a varying number of voice mail boxes, features, and minute plans. A good toll free virtual PBX service provider can also customize systems if needed.

Technology is ever changing in today’s fast paced world. Small business owners will either have to embrace it or risk being left behind.

Debt Consolidation UK: Even The Weak Become Strong When They Are United

A car loan, an overdraft, a couple of credit cards and a store card, that’s five separate debts. Sounds familiar??? , and such situation is even more familiar when it comes to UK. Where, recent studies indicate that that 2.6 million people spend at least half of their monthly income paying off personal debts. No wonder it’s been hard work keeping track of numerous debts as they keep mounting on your head.

If you’re trying to sort out a debt problem then you need to know exactly what those debts are. And try to manage those debts. One of the most effective techniques of debt management is debt consolidation UK. Debt consolidation UK process first initiates a bringing together of the various debts together.

These are then repaid through the debt consolidation loan. Debt consolidation UK consolidates or clusters all your loans into one and you have to make a single monthly payment for all your dues, instead of paying to number of creditors. you end up with a lower monthly payment and have more cash on hand at the end of each month, while your debts are still being paid off. Debt consolidation in UK is quite similar to process that is followed all over the world. Debt consolidation is a fair and growing service in the UK.

Various forms of the consolidation loan exist for people of all income levels and credit histories…as debt consolidation UK is open to all whether you have bad credit history or poor credit rating …..with a bit of inquiry and a little shopping around, it should be easy to find the consolidation loan UK that’s right for your needs.

Debt consolidation UK can loosely be classified into two broad categories

An unsecured debt consolidation UK is one which doesn’t require any collateral, or property that is offered to guarantee the loan.

Secured debt consolidations UK are those loans which do require collateral. These loans usually have lower interest rates than unsecured loan.

Debt consolidation UK offers following benefits:

    Reduce interest rate
    Reduce monthly payments
    Make loan condition more manageable
Enable you to payback unpaid debts
    One lender instead of many
No more harassment from previous loan lender
Expert advice for your particular financial situation .

However, one thing has to be taken care of that debt consolidation UK is mere transfer of your debts from many creditors to one single creditor to make it more manageable, by no means it pays off your existing debt. The only way to end your financial woes is to pay off your debt. All you have to choose from is ” one payment to single lender” to “many smaller payments to many creditors”.

Free Credit Report - Watch Out for Scams

Filed under: Mathematics Resources — admin @ 10:48 am

Many people may still not be aware of an amendment to the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) that Congress passed last year. This amendment allows U.S. citizens to receive a copy of their credit report, for free, once per year. The plan is being rolled out slowly in order to avoid swamping the system, but people living in the West and Midwest can receive their credit reports now, and everyone will be able to obtain a free credit report by September of this year. Those seeking a copy of their credit report should watch out, however, as not everyone who promises a “free” credit report is actually delivering one.

These free credit reports may be obtained through the official Website: http://www.annualcreditreport.com. Additional information is available at the Federal Trade Commission Website at http://www.ftc.gov/credit. Obtaining a copy of your credit report through this site is easy, and only requires your name, Social Security number, date of birth, and address. That would seem fairly straightforward, but there are many companies, some legitimate and some not, that are interested in attracting the business of those who seek copies of their credit report, and scams are flourishing.

Some companies have established Websites with addresses that are very similar to the address of the official site. These sites promise a free credit report, but they are actually only interested in harvesting your personal information. In addition to stealing your name, Social Security number and address, these sites may also tell you that a credit card number is necessary to “verify” your identification. With this information, the people operating these sites can steal your identity! There are many other Websites that promise “free” credit reports, but few that actually provide them for free. One such site is currently under investigation for credit report fraud. The site promised a “free” report, but required a credit card for “identification” purposes. Customers filled out the form and received a copy of the credit report but also received a charge on their credit card for $79.

Other unscrupulous companies take a more direct approach by sending spam e-mail that promises to provide free credit reports. These spam messages are almost always “phishing” expeditions that are designed only to obtain your personal information. If you are interested in obtaining a copy of your credit report, you should avoid responding to e-mail solicitations.

It is a rare occasion when you can obtain something for nothing. You can, however, receive a copy of your credit report, for free, once a year. Be aware, however, that not everyone who is promising you a free credit report intends to provide you with one.

Be Prepared in the Event Computer Disaster Strikes

Filed under: Lots Of Technology Resources — admin @ 10:45 am

    Computers

Businesses and individuals alike have all grown to rely on computers. The reliance is never more apparent than when something happens to the horrid little box that makes our lives easier. We expect computers to react a certain way, in certain situations. It nearly always comes as a surprise when the beloved little box, know as a computer, refuses to boot up. Probably even more shocking, is the dawning that we’ve neglected to backup or prepare for the unforeseen disaster that has just been thrust upon us.

Regardless of the number of times you have experienced the dread of being unable to access the information trapped in the god-awful computerized contraption, we are always invariably unprepared.

The reality of it is that computers, not only contain moving parts, but they like other machines, they are prone to failure at some point in their lives. Not only can hardware failures occur, but viruses can also corrupt data making it impossible to retrieve. Regardless of the litany of words used to bully the box into behaving, the truth is that the only offence is a good defense.

So how do you prepare for a computer tragedy?

    Prepare for the Worst

In structuring an offense it’s important to realize the power of reinforcements: backups are invaluable and will save countless hours of shameless degradation. Be sure that you backup data and files on a regular basis, there are a number of tools that will automate the process.

It is critical that you check the backup log to ensure that a backup was completed properly. I cannot begin to describe the devastation felt when it is realized that though there was a backup process in place, the backup never actually occurred. Realizing this during a restore is likely to push any computer lover over the edge. It is a good idea to store a weekly back up off site. This is especially helpful, if an unforeseen fire or a natural disaster strikes.

    Protection is critical!

    Build A Wall

If the computer has Internet access, either a hardware or software firewall (or combination there of) must be used. The firewall creates a barrier between a computer and the world. Without a firewall, Internet worms are capable of exploiting security holes and are able to create what are referred to as ‘back doors’. These back doors can then be used to gain access to personal information stored on the computer, including password files, and financial information.

    Trust No One

If you are an avid Internet surfer or downloader be sure to scan any downloads prior to opening or installing. Up to date anti-virus software should be used to ensure, that computers do not become infected with malicious viruses that will ruin your life. Scan any email attachments prior to opening regardless of whom they are from. Files that end with .scr, .pif and .exe can contain viruses that will wreak havoc with your data and emotional well being.

Preparedness goes a long way, and a little foresight will ensure that, while a computer might be an inconvenience, you will not be defeated.

    Networking Top Tips

Filed under: Doing Business — admin @ 3:18 am

    1. Join several networking groups and attend as many of their events as possible. Regular attendance builds up good relationships very quickly.

    2. Try and make sure you talk to at least one new person at each event you go to - don’t just stick with the people you already know.

    3. Don’t expect that you will walk into a networking event and come out of it with a job or a new client. Networking takes time and patience.

    4. Sticking your business card under the nose of everyone you meet is guaranteed to annoy them. Don’t go into your sales pitch straight away and always try to talk with someone rather than at them.

    5. Show a genuine interest in other people and what they do and get to know them as people rather than as business opportunities.

    6. Don’t disregard someone who doesn’t seem to be of immediate ‘use’ to you. You never know who they know or how they might help you.

    7. Manners cost nothing so treat everyone as you would wish to be treated yourself. People buy from - and recommend! - people they like.

    8. Be natural, be yourself and enjoy the opportunity to meet and learn from other business people.

    9. Don’t be afraid to walk up to someone and start talking. They are there for the same reasons as you are and will probably be grateful that they didn’t have to make the first move.

    10. At the end of the day, everyone is there to meet new people and make new contacts so don’t be afraid of politely ending a conversation with someone and moving on to someone else - they won’t be offended.

    11. When giving someone your business card, you may want to consider giving them two - one to keep and one to pass on.

    12. Try and find something you can do for the people you are talking to. Do you have a contact you can pass on that might help them with a problem they have? Do you know a good supplier who is just what they are looking for? People will remember you as friendly and helpful.

    13. If you make a good contact at an event, make sure you follow it up. Send them an email, make a quick phone call - it doesn’t matter how you do it but always, always follow up.

    14. Don’t forget about online networking. Join some business forums, put up some posts. You’ll start to recognise some names and you may find that they are going to an event you will be attending which gives you a head start as you know someone already before you walk through the door.

And finally - Listen! If you only take one tip away from this article, it’s got to be this one. If you’re too busy trying to think about what you’ve got to say next, you might just miss a golden opportunity. You’ll learn a lot more by listening and people will be impressed with someone who has obviously paid attention.

In summary, forget the sell, sell, sell - take the pressure off yourself by approaching the event as a fun opportunity to meet like-minded people and always remember that you get back what you give.

    Happy networking!
